Description

This painting represents Salome receiving the severed head of Saint John the Baptist, based on the biblical scene. A young man is holding his head and he is accompanied by an older man. To Salomé's right there is an older woman. The representation of a young woman accompanied by an old woman and a young man is reminiscent of images with Celestinesque themes.
