Title
Engraving of act I and cover page from the Burgos edition (1499)
Creator
Fadrique de Basilea and anonymous engraver.
Date
1499
Description
Calisto and Melibea are in the garden. It is thought to be during their first meeting in the garden. The characters' names are written above the figures, as with the rest of the engravings in this edition. There is a house on the left and a tree with a bird on the right.
Being at the beginning of the only issue of this edition, this image is often considered to be a cover, although strictly speaking it is not. The image of Calisto, with small variations, is used again in acts VIII and XI, and that of Melibea in act X and others.
