1616

Description

Scene in which Pármeno and Sempronio are executed. This is one of the rare cases in which this edition does not follow the images in Zaragoza (1545).
This image was possibly taken from one of the books of the period depicting the extermination of the native populations by the Spaniards in the Americas after the conquest. The victim being naked, and the presence of a bow and arrows seem to suggest an indigenous person. On the other hand, since the victim's eyes have been blindfolded and he seems to be a young man, he may be symbolic figure of Cupid, as the bow and arrow may also suggest.
